What I’m Reading: Fall Edition

What I’m Reading: Fall Edition

Holy Moly! How time flies! Can y’all believe that Fall is right around the corner? I sure can’t, but I must say, I am very happy that Autumn is nearly here. Fall is my favorite season, always has been & honestly I think it always will be.

Here are some reasons why:

1. The beautiful weather & changing colors
2. The delicious foods & smells
3. The fashion– I love layers, cozy sweaters, the autumn color palette, etc.
4. The beginning of the holidays

For the Fall season I decided to read books that had been released in 2018. I haven’t bought a new book in quite some time, actually. I have so many on my shelf that I have yet to read, that I felt like I didn’t want to buy anything new until I made a dent in my own personal library.

With that being said, I also felt like reading some new books would be good– especially since I’ve seen so many all over “bookstagram”– that’s the book blogging world of Instagram, for those who don’t know. So, when Amazon Prime day hit, I decided I would buy 3 newly released books that were also on sale.

Here’s what I ended up with…

Book #1: Census

For the month of September I’ll be reading Census. I really don’t know much about this book, other than it is a work of fiction & it has gotten some good reviews. One of the reasons that I chose this book for September is the fact that it’s pretty short– only 240 pages, with the font size being rather large. I have a camping trip, a backpacking trip, & some friends coming into town this month so I wanted to make sure I could read a book that wouldn’t take me too long to get through. That way I won’t be stressed. This seemed like a good choice.

A powerful and moving new novel from an award-winning, acclaimed author: in the wake of a devastating revelation, a father and son journey north across a tapestry of towns

Census by novel by Jesse Ball, published on March 6th 2018.

“Census is a vital testament to selfless love; a psalm to commonplace miracles; and a mysterious evolving metaphor. So kind, it aches.” – David Mitchell, author of Cloud Atlas

Book #2: Back Talk

Next, in October (my favorite month!) I’ll be reading Back Talk. I’m very, very excited about this collection of stories. From my understanding, stories from women of a variety of backgrounds will be featured. I’m all about the female experience and learning more of the ways of women & getting inside their heads, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy this one.

From an award-winning writer, a stunning collection of stories about women’s unexpressed desires and needs, and the unexpected ways they resurface.

Back Talk: Stories a book by Danielle Lazarin, published on February 6, 2018.

“The best collection I’ve read in years, from a phenomenal new talent” –Celeste Ng

Book #3: Feel Free

Lastly, to wrap up my Fall reads, I’ll be reading Feel Free by Zadie Smith. I have never read anything from Smith, but I’ve heard that her writing is incredible. I’ve seen this cover all over Instagram & I am very eager to see what’s in store for me with this one!

From Zadie Smith, one of the most beloved authors of her generation, a new collection of essays. Since she burst spectacularly into view with her debut novel almost two decades ago, Zadie Smith has established herself not just as one of the world’s preeminent fiction writers, but also a brilliant and singular essayist.

“Warmly insightful pieces that tease apart knotty strands of human experience…” –O, The Oprah Magazine

So that’s that! Those are the newly released books that I’ll be reading for the next season. If you have any suggestions of other newly released books you think I would like– please let me know in the comments!

Cheers & stay chic!
