December Dresses: Jacquard for the Holidays
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
I can hardly believe that we are under 10 days away from Christmas. The countdown has officially begun.
Today I’m sharing this jacquard stunner. Prior to writing this blog post, I wasn’t exactly sure what jacquard was. I knew that I liked the look, but besides that I couldn’t tell you much more. So, if you were like me– read on.
Simply put, jacquard is a type of fabric that features a raised pattern. This pattern is woven, rather than print onto the fabric.
The jacquard weave is created through a loom process, which is programmed to raise each wrap thread independently of the other threads.
Some of the most popular jacquard designs include: damasks, florals, and geometrics. Jacquard is very recognizable in its texture. Due to the woven raised pattern, the textured fabric has varying drape-ability and durability depending on the fibers used.
Because of this, jacquard can be a bit pricer than other fabrics. Jacquard weaving machines are more expensive. In addition, the process of threading the loom-– adding the colored warp threads that will make up a pattern-– is complex and time consuming.
What I have always enjoyed about jacquard is how rich it looks. No matter what that garment, or price point, I feel like jacquard has such a royal quality about it that radiants elegance and class.
It’s definitely a fabric that is meant for fancier occasions. Holiday parties, Christmas dinners, winter weddings– you name it. This type of style will always work well.
For obvious (red) reasons this dress works perfectly for the holiday season. It just looks festive!
The subtle red floral pattern is absolutely lovely. I like how it isn’t too loud, both in print and color. The red has a bit of maroon in it, which makes a nice option for those who do not like to wear classic bright red. The floral pattern too is a bit more like an overlay– it almost looks like the floral were softly painted on.
What I really like about this particular dress is the high-low length. I adore midi-length styles first and foremost. This dress adds in a slight rise in the front, that just brings a bit more attention to your legs– which ultimately highlights your shoes as well.
I opted for a classic black patent leather pump. I didn’t want to take away too much from the dress, because I think the pattern and style stands on its own.
Unfortunately since this dress was last season, it is not long available to shop. I found this dress at White House Black Market, which generally carries similar style dresses– just different colors and patterns.
