December Dresses: Classically Elegant
My December Dresses series continues! Today, I’m sharing a very elegant evening gown.
This particular dress is not mine, in fact it belongs to my mother. She was very kind in letting me borrow it for this series. She bought it last year to wear at my wedding. Which was held in the mountains during October, so it was rather chilly. I wanted to incorporate this dress because it seemed perfect for winter.
Here are some photos of my mom wearing it. I cropped really close, because I wanted to make sure that the dress was in focus. Not to mention, I don’t know if my parents want to be featured on The Chic Word. Either way, the specifics of the dress can be seen a little more clearly.
To me this dress stands on its own. I did not do much in terms of jewelry or my hair, because I wanted the dress to make the statement– which I think it did. I did add in this pearl necklace, but aside from that I am not wearing any other jewelry. Honestly, I think the dress would have looked just as nice without the necklace.
I really appreciate how this dress is a bit more modest, but doesn’t feel uptight or too conservative.
The subtle off the shoulder with the sweetheart neck add in a bit of sexiness. Evening out the long sleeves and length. The slit in the leg also adds a bit more to the gown, but still maintains a very classy and elegant vibe.
Not to mention, this dress provides more warmth than a lot of holiday dresses, which is why I knew I wanted to add it in this series.
The satin touch on the edge of the collar is such a pretty detail. I feel like this dress is so simple in design, but those subtle touches really make up the dress.
This dress maintains that vintage look that I am always searching for. I can easily envision a classic Hollywood star like Ingrid Bergman, Ava Gardner, or Lauren Bacall wearing a similar style.
Ultimately, I find this gown to be very flattering and classic.
While I’m not sure how many occasions you would have to wear this kind of dress– any winter formal weddings, or maybe even a fancy black tie party, or a night at the opera might make this kind of gown perfect.
Unfortunately– since my mom bought this dress last year– I couldn’t find this exact dress online. I was able to find a few similar options, which I have linked below.
This one seems like the closest to what I am wearing.
